FarmTRX Yield Monitors were designed with the following goals in mind: help farmers get more from their farming practice, keep installation and calibration simple, don’t get in the way at harvest.

These goals were born out of 4 generations of grain harvesting experience in the Canadian prairies. After starting variable rate trials with their local agronomist, FarmTRX CTO Perry Casson was eager to compare the family farm’s yield results. He needed to outfit his older combines with yield monitors to validate the agronomy. After scouring the market, it became clear that those available were priced way out of reach for most farmers, especially if you needed to outfit multiple combines of different ages and models, and with the existing technology already becoming outdated.

The gap in affordable, retrofit yield monitors pushed Perry to begin developing his own IoT based solution. He has a rich experience as an electronics technician, software developer and GIS analyst, as well as an operator of the 2400 acre farm in Saskatchewan, Canada. Perry’s background gave him the platform and connections to prototype a data logger and easy to calibrate yield sensors that would retrofit to any clean grain elevator. With wireless Bluetooth connectivity and a mobile app interface, the farmer can transfer the yield data to the cloud. When matched with the GIS expertise and mapping and tracking technology provided by Troo Corporation in Ottawa, Canada, the farmer received smart yield mapping for every field – automatically and affordably.

In 2015 the first FarmTRX Yield Monitor prototype was developed on the farm and released with the help of Troo Corporation’s extensive web-based tracking and mapping platform. Today, FarmTRX software and hardware have transformed significantly, including automated yield map generation and the addition of real-time moisture with the FarmTRX Moisture Sensor.

Originally designed for grain harvesters in western Canada, FarmTRX yield monitors can now be found on farms spanning Argentina, Ukraine, Norway, South Africa, Japan, the United Kingdom and beyond. We keep farmers at the heart of our operation by reducing barriers to precision yield monitoring for more farms, while keeping the price down and inputs minimal.

When it’s go-time at harvest, you shouldn’t have to wrestle with your yield monitor to get data off the harvester. FarmTRX keeps yield monitoring simple and affordable so farmers are confident they’re getting agronomy-ready maps throughout harvest and can put their resources back into the farm where most needed.
